2023年流行語大賞の年間大賞は「アレ」

The top buzzword of the year for 2023 is “A.R.E.”

The word comes from the Japanese word “are,” which means “that.”

The Hanshin Tigers pro baseball team began using “are” to avoid saying “the Central League title” out loud. They were afraid it would jinx their chances of winning.

Team manager Akinobu Okada adopted “A.R.E.” as the team’s slogan for this season, which stands for Aim, Respect and Empower.

今年の新語・流行語大賞の年間大賞に「アレ(A.R.E）」が選ばれた。

「アレ」はthatを意味する日本語の「あれ」に由来する。

プロ野球の阪神タイガースは「セ・リーグ優勝」を声に出して言うのを避け、「アレ」を使い始めた。口に出すことで勝利を逃してしまうことを恐れたからだ。

岡田彰布監督は、英語の「Aim（目標）」「Respect（敬意）」「Empower（力をつける）」の頭文字を表すこの言葉を今シーズンのスローガンに採用していた。
