上野のパンダ、観覧最終日に多くのファン

Japan’s last two giant pandas got a big farewell at Tokyo’s Ueno Zoo on Jan. 25.

Thousands of fans turned up to say goodbye to the 4-year-old twins, Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei.

The pandas were returned to China on Jan. 27.

Japan now has no giant pandas for the first time since 1972.

The return of the twins is seen as a sign that China-Japan relations are getting worse.

日本で飼育されている最後のジャイアントパンダ2頭が1月25日、上野動物園で盛大に見送られた。

4歳の双子のシャオシャオとレイレイに別れを告げようと、数千人のファンが詰めかけた。

パンダ2頭は1月27日、中国に返還された。

国内にパンダがいなくなるのは、1972年以来初めてである。

パンダ2頭の返還は、日中関係悪化の表れであるとみられている。
