北京五輪開会式、ウイグル族スキー選手を起用

At the Beijing Winter Olympics’ opening ceremony, a Uyghur skier took center stage. Dinigeer Yilamujiang lit the cauldron along with Zhao Jiawen.

Dinigeer is a 20-year-old cross-country skier born in the Xinjiang region, while Zhao, 21, competes in Nordic Combined.

Several Western countries, including the United States are holding a diplomatic boycott of the Games over China’s treatment of its Uyghur Muslim minority in the Xinjiang region.

China wants to portray the Games as inclusive.

北京冬季オリンピックの開会式で、ウイグル族のスキー選手が主役になった。ディニゲル・イラムジャン選手が、趙嘉文選手とともに聖火台に点火した。

ディニゲル選手は20歳、新疆ウイグル自治区出身のクロスカントリースキー選手である一方、中国の趙選手は21歳、ノルディック複合に出場する。

アメリカを含む西側諸国は、新疆ウイグル自治区に住むイスラム教少数民族に対する中国の扱いを理由に、この大会の外交的ボイコットを行なっている。

中国は、さまざまな人が参加している大会だと見せようとしている。
