デンマーク、年内で手紙集配サービスを廃止

Denmark’s state-run postal service, PostNord, said on March 6 it will stop delivering letters at the end of the year.

The agency services Denmark and Sweden. Since 2000, the volume of letters delivered has dropped by 90%, PostNord said.

PostNord will remove around 1,500 mailboxes this year. Danes can get refunds for their stamps, the agency said.

Around 1,500 employees face losing their jobs, out of a workforce of 4,600.

デンマークの国営郵便会社「ポストノルド」は３月６日、今年の年末をもって手紙の集配事業を終了すると発表した。

同社はデンマークとスウェーデンでサービスを提供している。同社によると、2,000年以降、取り扱う手紙の量が90%減少しているという。

ポストノルド社は約1,500の郵便ポストを年内に撤去する予定だ。また、デンマークの人々は購入された切手の返金を受けることができるという。

（この措置により）同社4,600人の従業員のうち1,500人が職を失う見込み。
