Japan’s debt hits a record ¥1,317 trillion
Japanese government debt hit a record high ¥1,317 trillion at the end of 2024, the Finance Ministry said on Feb. 10.
Total government debt rose by ¥7,198 billion from the end of September. The biggest rise was due to last year’s supplementary budget, which paid for a big package of economic policies.
As the result, the cost of servicing the government debt is expected to rise to a record high in the current fiscal year.

財務省の2月10日の発表によると、「国の借金」が2024年末に過去最大の1,317兆円となった。
政府の借金合計は、9月末から7兆1980億円増加した。この増加の最大要因は、大規模な経済政策を賄うためにおこなわれた去年の補正予算だ。
