政府、子ども政策を統括する新機関を設立

The central government launched a new agency on April 1 to oversee child policies.

The Children and Families Agency sits directly under the prime minister.It will handle challenges such as Japan’s low birthrate, child abuse and poverty.

Under the new agency, policy on children’s issues will be compiled centrally, where formerly different bodies handled different aspects.

The agency has around 430 officials from the public and private sectors.

政府は4月1日、子ども政策を統括する新機関を発足させた。

子ども家庭庁は、首相直属の組織である。日本の少子化、児童虐待、子どもの貧困などの課題を扱う。

新しい機関では、これまで異なる組織で別々の側面から取り組んできた子どもに関する課題についての政策を一元化してまとめる。

同庁には官民合わせて約430人の職員が配置されている。
