「世界一貧しい大統領」ウルグアイのムヒカ元大統領死去

Former Uruguayan President José Mujica, known as the world’s “poorest president” because of his modest lifestyle, died on May 13. He was 89.

Mujica served as president from 2010 to 2015. He gave away around 90% of his salary to charity.

He was a leftist icon. Under Mujica’s administration, Uruguay legalized same-sex marriage, and its economy grew.

Mujica was diagnosed with cancer last year.

その質素な生活ぶりから「世界で一番貧しい大統領」とも呼ばれてきた元ウルグアイ大統領のホセ・ムヒカ氏が、5月13日に亡くなった。享年89歳だった。

ムヒカ氏は2010年から2015年までウルグアイ大統領を務めた。彼は給与の約90％を慈善団体に寄付していた。

彼は左派の象徴的存在だった。彼の政権下で、ウルグアイでは同性婚が合法化され、経済も成長した。
