薬草でけがを治療する野生のオランウータン

An orangutan put a plant on a face wound and it healed, according to a study in Scientific Reports.

The study said that in Indonesia, researchers saw the male orangutan, Rakus, chewing a medical plant.

Rakus put the juice of the plant on his cheek wound, then covered the wound with the chewed plant. Within a month, the wound was healed.

This is the latest example of how some animals attempt to treat their own health problems with remedies found in the wild, scientists said.

オランウータンが顔の傷に薬草を当て治療したという論文を『サイエンティフィック・リポーツ』誌が掲載した。

この論文によると、研究チームがインドネシアで「ラクース」という雄のオランウータンが薬草をかんでいるのを目撃したという。

ラクースは頬の傷口に（この植物の）汁を塗り、その後かんだ草で傷口を覆った。1ヵ月で傷は治ったという。

科学者たちによれば、これは自分の疾病を自然界にある治療薬で治そうとする動物がいることの最新の一例、とのこと。
