ウシをシマウマ模様に塗ってイグ・ノーベル賞受賞

On Sept. 18, a team of Japanese researchers won the 2025 Ig Nobel Prize for biology for painting cows in a zebra pattern to see if they repelled insects.

The team, headed by Tomoki Kojima, painted white stripes on black cows.

They found that about half as many blood-sucking insects were attracted to the cows with white stripes compared to the cows with no paint.

The group is not sure why.

ウシにシマウマの模様を描き、虫を避ける効果があるかどうかを調べた日本の研究チームが、9月18日にイグ・ノーベル賞の生物学賞を受賞した。

児嶋朋貴氏が率いたこのチームは、白のしま模様を黒色のウシの体に描いた。

チームは、白いしま模様を施したウシに寄ってくる血を吸う虫の数は、塗っていないウシに比べ約半分だったことを発見した。

ただし、なぜ効果があったのかについては、まだ明らかになっていないとのこと。
