ニュージーランド労働党、次期首相を決定

New Zealand’s ruling Labour Party chose Chris Hipkins to be its new prime minister on Jan. 22.

Hipkins was COVID minister under the country’s previous prime minister Jacinda Ardern.

She suddenly resigned as the leader of the party and the country on Jan. 19 saying she had “no more in the tank” to lead the country.

Hipkins, 44, is admired in New Zealand for his competence in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic.

ニュージーランドの与党・労働党は1月22日、次期首相にクリス・ヒプキンス氏を選出した。

ヒプキンス氏は、ジャシンダ・アーダーン前首相の下で新型コロナウイルス対策担当相を務めていた。

アーダーン氏は1月19日に突然、国を導くために「これ以上余力がない」として党首および首相を辞任すると表明した。

ヒプキンス氏は44歳、新型コロナウイルス感染症への優れた対応能力で、国内で賞賛されている。
