沖縄、日本への復帰から50年を迎える

Okinawa Prefecture was returned to Japan from U.S. rule on May 15, 1972.

On May 15 this year, the prefecture marked 50 years since that date.

Although the prefecture was reverted to Japanese rule, there are still U.S. military bases in Okinawa.

There was a ceremony near one of those, U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, to mark the 50 years.

Okinawans continue to protest the presence of the bases.

沖縄県は、1972年5月15日に米国の統治から日本に返還された。

今年5月15日、沖縄県はその日から50年の節目を迎えた。日本の統治に戻されたとはいえ、沖縄には未だに米軍基地がある。

基地の一つ、米海兵隊の普天間飛行場の近くで、50年を記念する式典が行なわれた。

沖縄県民は基地の駐留への抗議をいまでも続けている。
