Japan issues first alert over low power
On March 21, The Japanese government warned people in Tokyo and other areas to save electricity.
It was the first such warning the government has ever made.
The warning came shortly after a large earthquake shut down some power plants in northeast Japan.
At the same time, temperatures dropped in Tokyo. The government was concerned power usage could spike and trigger blackouts.

政府、初の「電力需給ひっ迫警報」を発令
３月２１日、日本政府は東京を中心に節電を呼びかけた。
政府がこのような警告をしたのは初めてのことだった。
この警報は、東北地方で大きな地震が発生し、複数の発電所が停止した直後に出された。
同じ時期に、東京では気温が低下していた。政府は電力使用量の急増が停電を引き起こすことを懸念していた。
