Nobel Peace Prize awarded to atomic bomb survivors group
An atomic bomb survivors group was awarded the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize on Oct. 11.
Nihon Hidankyo, based in Hiroshima and Nagasaki prefectures, received the prize for its efforts toward achieving a world without nuclear weapons.
It is the first time the prize has come to Japan in 50 years.
In awarding the prize, the Norwegian Nobel Committee praised Nihon Hidankyo’s “extraordinary efforts” toward “establishing the nuclear taboo.”
