沖縄県が海中の軽石の除去を開始

After a volcano erupted earlier this year, huge numbers of pumice stones drifted close to the shore in Okinawa. On Oct. 29, authorities started removing the stones at the Hentona fishing port in Kunigami.

 The stones have made it hard for boats to leave the fishing port, and this is also disrupting tourism.

 An official said the work could take two to three weeks to finish.

今年の初めに起きた火山の噴火により、大量の軽石が沖縄の海岸近くに漂着した。10月29日、国頭村の辺土名漁港でこの軽石の除去作業が始まった。

軽石により船の漁港への出入りが困難になり、観光にも支障が出ている。

関係者によると、作業終了まで2、3週間かかる見通しだと言う。
