A new dinosaur species named after Doraemon’s Nobita
A new species of dinosaur was discovered in China last year. Now it has a name: Eubrontes nobitai.
The name comes from Nobita, the schoolboy in the Doraemon manga.
A footprint fossil of E. nobitai was discovered in July 2020 in Sichuan province. Scientists researched it and said E. nobitai was nearly 4 meters long.
A paleontologist chose the name because of the Doraemon movies featuring dinosaurs which are very popular in China.

昨年、中国で新種の恐竜が発見された。付けられた名前は「エウブロンテス・ノビタイ」という。
この名前は漫画『ドラえもん』に登場する少年「のび太」にちなんでいる。
E・ノビタイの足跡の化石は、2020年7月に四川省で発見された。この化石を調査した研究チームによると、E・ノビタイの体長は4メートル近くあったという。
古生物学者が、中国でも人気の高い、恐竜が登場するドラえもんの映画にちなんでこの名前を選んだという。
