Lawmakers in New Zealand plan to ban greyhound racing from August 2026.

Greyhound racing was very popular in the country in the 20th century, but in recent years the industry has been under a spotlight.

As the public learned that many greyhounds are injured or killed, politicians began to speak up.
Lawmakers across the board support the ban.

ニュージーランド議会は、2026年８月からグレーハウンドを競争犬として使うドッグレースを禁止する予定だ。

グレーハウンド・レースは20世紀には同国で非常に人気があったが、近年その業界に世間の注目が集まっている。

（レース中に）けがをしたり命を落としたりするグレーハウンドが多いことが公になり、政治家が声を上げ始めた。
議員たちは党派を超えて、この禁止案を支持している。
