新型コロナウイルス、一般的感染症へ引き下げへ

The Japanese government decided on Jan. 27 to downgrade the legal status of COVID-19.

Currently, the novel coronavirus is legally equivalent to infectious diseases such as tuberculosis. This status lets the government take stricter measures.

Starting on May 8, the coronavirus will be downgraded, and will have the same status as common infectious diseases like seasonal influenza.

This will allow many COVID-19 measures to be relaxed.

政府は1月27日、新型コロナウイルスの法律上の位置づけを引き下げることを決定した。

現在、新型コロナウイルスは法的には結核などの感染症に相当する扱いとされている。このため、政府はより強い予防措置をとれるようになっている。

5月8日からコロナウイルスの分類は引き下げられ、季節性インフルエンザなどの一般的な感染症と同じ位置づけとなる。

これにより、多くの予防対策が緩和されることになる。
