トンガの火山噴火が津波を誘発

A massive undersea volcano exploded on Jan. 15 off Tonga. It sent clouds of ash into the air that covered the Pacific Islands nation.

The blast from the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai volcano also started a tsunami wave that traveled across the Pacific.

As of Jan. 17, Tonga was almost completely cut off from the world. The Tongan capital, Nukuʿalofa, was seriously damaged. Internet connection and drinking water are not available at the moment.

1月15日、トンガ沖で巨大な海底火山が噴火した。火山灰が舞い上がり、トンガ各地の太平洋諸島を覆った。

フンガトンガ・フンガハアパイ火山の噴火は、太平洋を横断する津波も引き起こした。

1月17日現在、トンガはほぼ完全に孤立した状態になっている。トンガの首都ヌクアロファは深刻な被害を受けた。インターネットや飲料水は現時点で使用できていない。
