日本の諸島が世界遺産登録へ

A chain of islands in southwestern Japan is a step closer to becoming a World Heritage site, according to government officials.

The chain includes Amami Oshima island and Tokunoshima island in Kagoshima Prefecture, and also part of Okinawa Island and Iriomote in Okinawa Prefecture.

The 43,000-hectare area will likely be approved by the World Heritage Committee between July 16 and 31. The islands are crucial for the preservation of biodiversity.
