Under Biden, U.S. rejoins Paris Agreement

Within hours of becoming U.S. president on Jan. 20, Joe Biden said the country will rejoin the Paris climate accord. 

The move was welcomed by world leaders, including British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Biden’s predecessor, Donald Trump, put the U.S. on track to leave the accord, and it formally left last November. 

“A cry for survival comes from the planet itself,” Biden said in his inaugural address.

バイデン新大統領のもとで米国がパリ協定に復帰

１月20日、アメリカの新大統領に就任して数時間のうちに、ジョー・バイデン氏はアメリカがパリ協定に復帰すると表明した。

イギリスのボリス・ジョンソン首相やフランスのエマニュエル・マクロン大統領ら世界の指導者たちはこの動きを歓迎した。

バイデン氏の前任者、ドナルド・トランプ氏は、アメリカのパリ協定離脱に向けた動きを進め、昨年11月には正式に脱退していた。

「地球そのものが、存亡への悲鳴をあげている」とバイデン氏は就任演説で述べた。
