Obama calls for world without nuclear weapons in historic Hiroshima visit

U.S. President Barack Obama called on nuclear powers to strive to pursue a world without nuclear weapons in an address in Hiroshima on May 27.

He became the first sitting U.S. president to visit Hiroshima, which was devastated by a U.S. atomic bomb in the final stage of World War II in 1945. Nations holding nuclear weapons "must have the courage to escape the logic of fear, and pursue a world without them," Obama said during his 17-minute speech.
