Three Japanese scientists win Nobel Prize in physics

The 2014 Nobel Prize in physics was awarded on Oct. 7 to three Japan-born scientists for inventing an environmentally-friendly light source that is now commonplace. Isamu Akasaki, Hiroshi Amano and Shuji Nakamura won “for the invention of efficient blue light-emitting diodes, which has enabled bright and energy-saving white light sources,” said  the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

日本人科学者3人、ノーベル物理学賞を受賞

10月7日、今では一般的となった環境に優しい光源を発明した3人の日本人科学者に、2014年のノーベル物理学賞が授与された。スウェーデンの王立科学アカデミーは、赤崎勇さん、天野浩さん、中村修二さんは、「明るく省エネルギーな白色光を可能にした効率的な青色発光ダイオードを発明した」ことにより、同賞を受賞したと述べた。
